Growth Has No Finish Line

And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man.

Luke 2:52

Watching the Olympics has a way of bringing out the spirit of a champion in us. For some, the finish line is the culmination of years of dedication to their decisions and commitment to their craft. For others, the finish line is just the very beginning.

The reality is, whether you are an Olympian or not, we all run our own race. In this life, we will live, learn, love, and grow. And growth - unlike an Olympic sport - has no finish line. As long as we are living, we should be growing

Growth in some areas happens naturally, while growth in other areas has to be intentional. The Bible references growth in various ways and highlights the use of metaphors to aid in our understanding. The image of Jesus growing spiritually (in wisdom) and physically (in stature) in Luke emphasizes that as the son of God grew in these ways, so should we.

Friends, we are called to spiritual growth throughout the teachings of Jesus. I find encouragement in the fact that the journey of following Christ requires spiritual transformation. We are blessed to have a guide to this transformation through the living word…and that is truly worth championing and believing!
